My Heritage"    by I. Torres

The Aztecs, the Mayas, the Incas, the Olmos,
Are all in the lineage of my Mexican heritage.
Our Conquerors, the Spanish, Charles the V, and Cortez, 
Are all part of the history of my Mexican Past.

My ancestors were architects, and also great warriors,
They built giant pyramids and invented the calendar.
Mathematicians, Astronomers, and Ancient Philosophers,
My heritage is rich and so strong and so powerful.
     
Our Conquerors, the Spanish were looking for riches,
The Aztecs were looking for peaceful co-existence.
And when it was over, Technotitlan was destroyed,
Cuauhtemoc was captured which means "Falling Eagle".

The Indians were butchered and lost all their freedom,
The Ecomendia was demeaning in abuses and serfdom.
They were overworked and cheated and physically maltreated,
But the scars of my ancestors have slowly retreated.

My blood is as red as the blood of my ancestors,
I come from the Aztecs and the Conquistadores.
I am Mestizo as are my brothers and sisters
Born in Aztlan` and proud to be brown.
